MAYOR COHEN OFFERS SNOW UPDATE, ASKS CITY RESIDENTS FOR THEIR PATIENCE
Dear fellow Annapolitans:
Your city government has been working non-stop to clean up one of the largest snowfalls our area has seen in a century. Since snow began falling last Friday, shifts of personnel have been working 24 hours a day to clear the roadways. As of Monday morning we had four large trucks, three small trucks, two front-end loaders, one backhoe and one tractor all working hard. Despite these efforts, it will still be several days before plows are able to reach every street. ...

SNOW REMOVAL QUESTIONS
Department of Public Works crews are working around the clock to clear the City’s 88 miles of road. The Emergency Snow Routes are passable as of Sunday; the Snow Connector Routes will be passable by Tuesday; and crews have begun to turn their attention to residential streets. City officials ask for your continued patience and cooperation as they work toward completing the removal process. IT IS EXPECTED TO TAKE AT LEAST FIVE DAYS TO MAKE ALL CITY ROUTES PASSABLE. Complications could be numerous given the sheer volume of snow. (More than 30 inches of snow fell in some parts of Annapolis this weekend.) As of Monday afternoon, forecasts are calling for 10 to 20 inches of snow to fall between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening.
City residents with questions about snow removal can call the DPW Operations line (410-263-7967) during the day. After hours, Public Works emergencies can be reported on the City’s 24-hour emergency hotline at 410-224-2140.
For a full list of Emergency Snow Routes, snow maps and other information, go to DPW's snow page.
CITY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES CLOSED ON TUESDAY
Because of inclement weather, Mayor Joshua J. Cohen has declared that city administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Essential employees, however, must report on time.
The City Council meeting scheduled for Monday night is canceled. A makeup date will likely be set for next week.
STATUS OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES
RECREATION AND PARKS: The Truxtun Park Rec Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. All programs and classes are canceled.
PARKING: For city residents who parked their cars at the City’s garages this weekend, free parking will remain in effect until further notice. Beginning at noon Tuesday, Feb. 9, all cars must be moved off Emergency Snow Routes in anticipation of another major snowstorm.
ANNAPOLIS TRANSIT: Bus service will begin at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday with the following changes: Only the Brown route and State Shuttle will be in service. There is no service into neighborhoods until road conditions improve. In anticipation of more snow, please be prepared for service to end early Tuesday. A service update will be made by 10 a.m. For more information, call 410-263-7964.
TRASH/RECYCLING COLLECTION: With DPW crews focusing on snow removal, no refuse services will be provided Monday, Feb. 8 and Tuesday, Feb. 9. This includes trash, recycling and yard waste collection. There will be no makeup days. This decision to cancel trash/recycling pickup was also made to ensure the safety of residents and our crews because placement of refuse containers becomes “shaky” at best on piles of plowed snow.
SHELTER: Anyone in need of shelter should contact the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services at 410-421-8400 or 410-863-4888.
REQUEST TO RESIDENTS
City officials appreciate your help in the following areas as we all dig out from the storm:
-- Shovel your walkways the best you can -- Keep fire hydrants cleared of snow in case they are needed -- Unblock storm drains to prevent flooding
